Didier Deschamps this evening faced his first game in charge as Juventus coach at the “Moccagatta” stadium, Alessandria. Facing the Turin giants in the first of their 2006/07 pre-season friendlies were a local representative side composed of players from the lower leagues. Juventus President Cobolli Gigli and Sporting Director Alessio Secco were among the spectators. From the outset Juventus dominated possession, pitching camp in the opponent’s half. Marchionni, Bojinov and Olivera all saw their attempts on goal thwarted by the Alessandria keeper, clearly up for the game of his life, but Juventus eventually made the break-through, an Olivera corner thumped into his own net by unfortunate Alessandria defender, Bobbio. The first half ended with Juventus pushing hard for a second goal but it was after the restart that the bianconeri found their true form. Deschamps rang the changes, bringing on Kapo, Palladino, Guzman and Bartolucci on for Balzaretti, Zalayeta, Bojinov and Olivera and the new faces made an immediate impact, another own goal making it 2-0 after a great run down the left flank by Kapo. The Frenchman then added a third minutes later from a Guzman cut back and the flood gates opened. Five more followed with goals from Guzman, Paro and a hat-trick from Palladino. The bianconeri ended the evening with an 8-0 victory to their name, giving both Didier Deschamps and the Juve faithful something to shout about.

Deschamps is the new coach

Didier Deschamps is the new coach of Juventus. The Frenchman today signed a contract that ties him to the club for the next two years. Deschamps' return is great news for the bianconeri, who witnessed the peak of his playing career during his five years with the club from 1994-1999. Didier played 178 times, scored four goals and won almost every conceivable trophy: 3 scudetti, a Champions League, an Intercontinental Cup, a European Supercup, a Coppa Italia and 2 Italian Supercups.

Deschamps has previously managed Monaco, from 2002 to september 2005, with whom he came second and third in the French league, and reached the final of the Champions League in 2004.

Didier will be ready to shine once again as he undertakes his next adventure, at the helm of the new Juventus.

“I feel enormously happy right now. I’m really pleased to have come back here, to Turin, to coach a team like Juventus”.
Having signed a two-year contract this afternoon, Didier Deschamps expressed his satisfaction at his new post, and wasted no time in giving the fans an insight into what he expects of his team: “I am part of Juventus’s history as a player, and the fans remember me as I was on the field; perhaps I wasn’t the most spectacular player, but I always gave the best that I could, right until the end. The team needs to have this same mentality: to always believe in themselves. To do this, we have to ensure that we have everyone’s support.”

Allievi Nazionali: The Scudetto!

The Juventus Allievi Nazionali team have followed in the footsteps of the Primavera squad to be named champions of Italy! As with their elders, Storgato's squad faced Fiorentina in the final, winning on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.
At the end of the first half fiorentina held the advantage, leading 1-0 through Lepri's 26th minute goal. Whilst the viola goalkeeper was able to prevent Juve from equalising just before half-time, he could do nothing stop Pasquato's effort from finding the back of the net eleven minutes after the restart.
As the second half wore on Juventus tried their luck through Maritato, Pasquato and Essabr, whilst Lattanzio went close for the opposition, but neither team was able to make the breakthrough. With tiredness beginning to show extra-time passed without much excitement leading the sides to the penalty spot. With the score poised at four-all it Neri saved the decisive effort to hand Juventus the national championship.

Marchionni: "It's an incredible feeling"

Marco Marchionni is officially a Juventus player. The winger, formerly of Parma, took and passed his club medical at the Fornaca clinic and the Turin Sports Medicine Centre this morning. Having returned from training with the National squad, he was accompanied by the new Team Manager – Gianluca Pessotto.

Following the tests he made his way to the Club’s offices where he was met by the Director of Sporting Affairs, Alessio Secco: “I’m really pleased with how this season has gone” – said Marchionni – “having recovered from my knee injury I secured Parma’s Serie A status, was called-up to the National squad and am now a Juventus player. It’s an incredible feeling: to be part of a club with such a glorious history that from the first instant stunned me with their incredible organisation.”

Marco Marchionni: The profile

Marco Marchionni was born on 22nd July 1980 in Monterotondo, a province of Rome. An exciting winger blessed with great dynamism and a good eye for goal, he began his career in the Monterotondo youth squad before moving to Empoli in the 1998/99 season with whom he made his Serie A debut on 31st January 1999. He spent the next two seasons playing for the Tuscans in Serie B before returning to Serie A with Parma in 2001.

After a brief spell with Piacenza in the 2002/2003 season, he returned to Parma where he became a key figure within the team over the next four years. His impressive form earned him a call-up to the National squad, and he made his debut with the Azzurri in the 3-1 victory over Poland in November 2003. In his final season with Parma he made 31 appearances, scoring 4 times and creating countless opportunities for his team mates. He was on the reserve list for a place in the 2006 World Cup squad.

Juve's Primavera squad are champions of Italy. Scenes of joyous celebration greeted the final whistle as the bianconeri ended a magnificent season in triumph, beating Fiorentina by 2-0 thanks to goals from Criscito (7') and Paolucci (37'). The win secures the Primavera championship for Juventus for the first time since 1994 and the squad were congratulated on their success by the new Director of Sporting Affairs, Alessio Secco.

The match:

The bianconeri coach sent his team onto the field in a 4-3-1-2 formation with Scarzanella in goal, Di Cuonzo, Zammuto, Criscito and Rossi in defence, Marchisio, Venitucci and De Ceglie in midfield, Giovinco playing off the two strikers and Paolucci and Volpe leading the attack. Only seven minutes had elapsed before Juventus were ahead: Giovinco’s free-kick from the left hand side found Criscito in the box, whose well-placed header made it 1-0. Whilst Fiorentina tried to get themselves back into the game and created several dangerous opportunities, the majority of the possession and chances went the way of Juventus. Twenty minutes in and the bianconeri went close to doubling their advantage, Giovinco’s free-kick striking the crossbar and beginning a series of opportunities for Chiarenza’s squad; Rossi and Marchesio tried their luck before Paolucci struck wide on 28’ minutes, forced the keeper into a good save on 31’ and saw an acrobatic effort go just over before finally seizing his chance and putting Juve 2-0 ahead. With 37’ passed Giovinco fed the young striker who sped into the opposition half on the counter-attack, beat a defender and smashed his shot into the back of the net.

In the final minutes of the half Volpe’s effort brushed the post whilst, at the other end, Zammuto deflected De Falco’s effort wide for a corner.

The second half began with the squads unchanged and Juventus looking increasingly dangerous. Only four minutes had passed when De Ceglie’s effort was cleared for a corner, and minutes afterwards a blistering left-footed shot from Venituci brushed the post. A quarter of an hour later Scarzanella pulled off a fantastic save from a free-kick to deny Fiorentina a lifeline - it was to be one of the few moments his goal was troubled.

From then on Juventus took charge of the game as they sought to increase their lead and kill off the game for good. Twenty-five minutes into the half Giovinco was again denied, although his performance merited the ‘Guerin d’Oro’ as man-of-the-match. As the final whistle sounded, Juventus left the field as 2-0 victors and secured the Primavera championship for the bianconeri for the first time in 12 years.

As the Primavera squad sealed a vital win against Fiorentina to cap a fantastic season, Alessio Secco, the new Director of Sporting Affairs, proudly looked on: “For me it’s a really lucky debut and I’m happy to have begun in this manner even if I personally didn’t merit this victory, which belongs to the players, the coach and everyone who has worked so hard to get this fantastic squad together on the pitch.”

The bianconeri coach Vincenzo Chiarenza, who himself won the Primavera championship as a player in the 1971-72 season, beamed with satisfaction: “I’m hugely happy and very emotional…the boys have had a great season and truly deserved this victory.” Giovinco, who was named player of the tournament, said: “I’m really happy to have won this trophy, and now we can celebrate! We are a really close-knit group. I dedicate this victory to my parents and my girlfriend.”

Paolucci, who was unsurprisingly on the scoresheet following a magnificent goal, could barely contain his excitement: “I’m really happy. Of all the goals I’ve scores this season, this was the most difficult but also the best. Goals in the final are the most important, and the ones that really mean something.”

A spectacular and exciting semi-final saw the Juventus Primavera squad beat Palermo to reach the final of the domestic championship. Chiarenza's boys recorded a 3-2 win over the Sicilians in a combative encounter that was highly dramatic from start to finish.
The Bianconeri took the lead 37' into the first half through a magnificent Giovinco free-kick and doubled their advantage after the break with a splendid solo goal from Paolucci whose scissor-kick beat the opposition keeper following a perfect pass from Del Prete. Although at this point the game seemed closed, Palermo clawed a goal back from Terranova's header. However, Juventus managed to hang on to their lead and Paolucci scored his second of the evening, and his 26th of the season, in the first minute of injury time afer good counter-attacking play from the bianconeri. It wasn't finished there though. In the 49' minute of the second half Carbonaro scored with a neat lob that gave the Sicilians some consolation.

Victory ensured Juventus a place in the final where they are set to meet Fiorentina,who beat Milan 2-1 in the other semi-final, in the 'Romeo Neri' stadium in Rimini at 21:00 on Thursday 8th June.

After the final whistle the players and staff were presented with their medals and proudly displayed the cup to their adoring fans.

A carnival atmosphere enveloped the Delle Alpi stadium on Sunday afternoon as Juventus hosted Palermo in the last home game of the season. With the stadium close to capacity the fans turned out it their thousands to urge the bianconeri forward.

As the teams left the field after a hard-fought ninety minutes the celebrations continued with Juventus winning 2-1 and taking a three-point lead into the final game of the season.

Although Juve had the majority of the possession in the first half they struggled to find the final ball and became increasingly frustrated by the defensive approach of their opponents. Nedved twice went close for the bianconeri, but saw his shots well saved on both occasions. Seventeen minutes in the Czech was again involved as Juve created a well-worked opportunity. His headed flick-on from Trezeguet’s pass found Ibrahimovic in space in the area. The Swede’s first touch was good but the Palermo defence managed to clear his attempted pass back to Trezeguet.

The turning point came half an hour into the game when Camoranesi capitalised on some shaky defending by the Sicilians and played a perfect cross to the near post. The pass was nervously flicked-on by a Palermo defender and fell at the feet of Nedved. The feisty left-winger made, striking the ball past Agliardi to put Juventus one-nil ahead. Di Michele and Conteh tried their luck as Palermo tried to find an equaliser, but Juventus looked the more likely of the two squads to score the next goal, a right-footed effort from Nedved scraping the left hand post.

Juventus began the second half in explosive form. Nedved and Trezeguet both went close before Zlatan latched onto a brilliant chipped through-ball from Camoranesi to double Juve’s lead seven minutes after the restart, coolly slotting the ball between Agliardi’s legs. However, ten minutes later it was Palermo’s turn to celebrate. Godeas’s fierce shot flying beyond Buffon and into the top corner as the Sicilians pulled a goal back.

Despite the scare Juventus never looked overly troubled and saw out the remainder of the game without serious problems. As the players left the field they stopped to acknowledge their fans, all of whom will be hoping for a repeat performance at Reggina next weekend.

An extraordinary opening from Juventus saw them 3-0 up in the space of eight minutes. Vieira, Trezeguet and Mutu were all on the scoresheet as the bianconeri sealed an important victory to keep them on track for the title.

The bianconeri began the first half like a team possessed and ran riot over their opponents in the opening quarter of an hour. After only three minutes Juventus were ahead, Vieira jumping highest to head the ball into the bottom right-hand corner of the net following Nedved’s corner. Minutes later, and the Czech was on hand again, playing the ball to Del Piero after a mazy run from midfield. The talismanic captain played a cute lay-off into the path of Trezeguet who made no mistake, striking the ball home from just outside the area for his 22nd league goal of the season. Clearly stunned, Siena tried to make their way back into the game, and Vergassola's right-footed effort had to be turned around the post by Buffon. The home side were in for further punishment however as Juve converted their third. Alex collected the ball close to the halfway line to begin a searing counter-attack for the visitors. The captain fed Vieira who played a perfect pass into the path of Mutu, sprinting into the box from the right wing. The Romanian slipped his shot inside the near post to put Juventus 3-0 ahead and cap an explosive ten minutes for the bianconeri.

Although the home side tried to get back into the game, their efforts were in vain against the strength and discipline of the Juventus defence. Both Chiesa and Bogdani tried their luck, but Locatelli came closest, his fierce shot from outside the area brilliantly saved by Buffon who tipped the ball over the bar for a corner. As the teams headed towards the dressing room at half-time, the visitors remained 3-0 ahead.

After the restart Juventus took a more cautious approach and seemed content to sit on their lead. With Zebina replacing Mutu as early as the 12th minute, it was clear that Capello had decided to focus on defence and chances in the second half were far fewer for both sides. Chiesa went closest for the home side with a mean free-kick which struck the crossbar, whilst Del Piero was denied brilliantly by Fortin – who tipped Alex’s side-footed shot over the bar.

The game ended 3-0, and saw Juventus pick up another vital three points in their quest for the title. With Milan winning against Livorno, the lead remains 3 point with two games to play.

After a disappointing first half ended with ten-man Lazio one goal ahead, Juventus drew on their experience and passion to salvage a point from the game. With less than five minutes remaining, Trezegol struck to cancel out Rocchi’s opener and send the home crowd wild. The draw, coupled with Milan’s victory over Messina, means that Juve currently have a three point lead over their closest rivals with three games to play.

Although Juventus dominated the first half, they were given a warning of Lazio’s attacking potency as early as the fourth minute when Rocchi’s snap-shot from the left hand side of the area was tipped over by Abbiati. Five minutes later Juve began to exert themselves on the game and both Mutu and Trezeguet tested Peruzzi before the ‘keeper was called into action yet again after Emerson’s flick-on was hit goalwards by Ibrahimovic. From the resulting corner Vieira rose highest to thunder a header onto the post. After Patrick’s agonising effort, the bianconeri continued to attack and Zlatan almost broke the deadlock twenty minutes into the half. Surging forward on the left wing, Nedved laid a perfect pass to Ibra who took a few touches before striking the ball towards the bottom corner, a shot that Peruzzi could only deflect for a corner.

With Juventus controlling much of the possession, a rare attack from Lazio ended with the biancazzuri one goal ahead. A teasing low cross from Pandev found Rocchi at the near-post, and the Lazio striker’s first time effort beat Abbiati. Five minutes later and Lazio thought they had doubled their advantage only for Dabo’s long-range effort to be disallowed. Clearly upset by the decision, Dabo continued his protests with the referee and received a straight red-card for dissent.

Despite further chances for Emerson and Nedved, Juventus entered the tunnel at half-time one goal behind. Capello took the opportunity to change his formation, and sent Del Piero and Balzaretti on in place of Mutu and Balzaretti. Ironically, it was the latter who was to have the better of the early chances, twice trying his luck from distance and calling Peruzzi into action.

With Lazio a man down, Juve knew it was an opportunity to pour pressure on their opponents, and were relentless in attack. Nedved and Zambrotta caused problems on the wings and Vieira panicked the Romans with his height and power at set-plays. With time running out, Pavel and Patrick combined to find Trezeguet unmarked in front of goal. The Frenchman coolly collected Nedved’s flick-on and buried his shot beyond the stranded Peruzzi.

Juventus could have extended their lead in the dying seconds, but Nedved saw his shot pushed around the post by the opposition ‘keeper.
